Four of these songs (Nos. 3, 12, 17, 23) were written by Bob Dylan, my favorite being Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues (#17). Three (Nos. 1, 18 and 28) are by McCartney and Lennon of the Beatles, with In My Life (#1) at the top of my list. Three tunes (Nos. 4, 15 and 30) are by Paul Simon who, with Art Garfunkel, formed my favorite performance group of the decade – So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright (#30) really gets to me . Other tunes I'm especially drawn to are the title song, Joni Michell's Both Sides Now (#5) (long identified with Judy Collins) – the title denoting the other side of my musical personality that this collection represents; James Taylor's Sunny Skies (#6), Gordon Lightfoot's Early Morning Rain (#14), Randy Newman's I Think It's Gonna Rain Today (#8), Leonard Cohen's Sisters of Mercy (#2), Graham Nash's Marrakesh Express (#26), and Tom Paxton'sThe Last Thing On My Mind (#31), which I often play on harmonica, with my musician son Tom on guitar and vocal, late at night when we're together.
