Many of the songs relate to particular vibrant locales in the city, wth Harlem the triumphant neighborhood (Nos. 3, 4, 11, 17, 21, and 22), Rodgers and Hart are the songwriters with the most entries (Nos. 23, 29 and 31). I selected some lesser-known songs from four post-war Broadway shows. "Fiorello" (#15), "Guys and Dolls" (#16), "West Side Story (#25) and "Hair" (#27). Everybody knows "Moon River" from Breakfast at Tiffany's, but I've included instead Henry Mancini's lovely theme (#5) from that fine movie. ("Moon River" will be featured in my new album of popular waltzes, due out in December 2009.)
